No. 1 Falcons tie Pointers 3-3 in WIAC opener, breaking DIII record for overall unbeaten streak

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The top-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team opened its 2024-25 WIAC schedule with a 3-3 draw and shootout win against UW-Stevens Point Friday evening at Hunt Arena.

With the tie, the Falcons broke another NCAA Division III record, extending their unbeaten streak to 36 consecutive games, with their most recent loss in March of 2023. The streak bests Plattsburgh State's unbeaten run from 2006-07.

UWRF was down 2-0 in the first period and battled back to tie the game at 3-3 to force overtime. A scoreless OT period led to a shootout, UWRF's second of the season. Madison Kadrlik and Ellie Brice scored shootout goals while Jordan O'Kane stopped a pair of Pointers to give the Falcons two points in the WIAC standings.

The Pointers opened the scoring three minutes into the game as Maddie Andrle pounced on a rebound, and then doubled its lead at 11:56, capitalizing on another rebound opportunity, and UWRF starting goaltender Anna Rader was relieved by Jordan O'Kane.

Katherine Bell scored late in the first to give the Falcons life heading into the first intermission down 2-1, her fifth goal in as many games.

The Falcons and Pointers traded goals in the second. UWRF tied the game at 5:28 as a Kennedi Bielenberg-Howarth shot from the point found its way through traffic and past Pointer goalie Anne Beck for her second of the season. UWSP took back the lead though at 11:17 and they led 3-2 heading into the final 20 minutes.

Cahlilah Lindquist's first as a Falcon tied the game at three apiece with 13 and a half minutes left in third, where the score stood at the end of regulation.

UWRF outshot UWSP 7-2 in the five-minute overtime, but couldn't convert for the game-winner. The Falcons finished with 52 shots on goal, allowing 19 from the visitors. Megan Goodreau led the Falcons with nine shots on target.

Tomorrow afternoon the Falcons (3-0-2, 0-0-1 WIAC) will travel to face Northland College in Ashland, Wis.
