WHITEWATER, Wis. — The No. 20-ranked UW-River Falls football team fell by a score of 13-7 at UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons, now 5-3 overall and 2-3 during WIAC competition, gave up a season-low point total despite having trouble finding offense. UW-Whitewater totaled 351 yards of total offense compared to UWRF's 283 while the Warhawks held the Falcons to a season-low 50 rushing yards.
A 13-point second quarter by the Warhawks made the difference, including a pair of field goals by UWW's Jackson Fox, including a 48-yard field goal to open the scoring early in the second period.
During the Falcons' second offensive drive of the second quarter, Riley Warzynski was intercepted by UWW's Ethan Gallagher, and the Warhawks capitalzied, scoring on their ensuing drive to take a 13-0 lead, which was the eventual game-winning score.
Trailing 13-0 heading into the second half, the Falcons put together a pair of stops on defense, capped off by a Michael Brown interception (his third of the season), in which he returned 19 yards down to the UW-Whitewater eight-yard line. It led to a Falcon touchdown as Cade Fitzgerald ran in for a score from six yards out, his 11th rushing TD on the year.
Both teams were held scoreless the rest of the way, leading to the Warhawk victory.
Riley Warzynski finished with 221 passing yards, led by 78 receiving yards from Michael Krueger. Gage Timm led the Falcon defense with 15 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
Up next, UWRF hosts UW-Stevens Point next Saturday, Nov. 9.
