ASHLAND, Wis. - The No. 13-ranked UW-River Falls men's hockey team defeated Northland College 4-1 Saturday evening.
With their third win in a row, the Falcons improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 during WIAC play.
UWRF scored goals in all three periods, including a pair of power play goals while outshooting the Lumberjacks 43-25. Four different Falcons found the back of the net while
Brennan Boynton totaled 24 saves to earn the win, his sixth of the season.
Burke Simpson got the Falcons on the board late in the first period before UWRF scored twice more in the second.
Alex Atwill scored on the power play near the midway point of regulation and under five minutes later a
Max Collette unassisted goal put the Falcons up 3-0 heading into the final period.
The Falcons, who entered the game without a power play tally, drew an interference penalty on the Lumberjacks six minutes into the third period and capitalized with their second power play goal of the night, this time from
Reid Lune.
Northland broke the shutout at 13:47 of the third period, but were unable to get any more past the Falcon defense and Boynton. Atwill and Collette each had two-point nights with a goal and assist, while
Tyler Lee led the Falcons with two assists.
The Falcons have a week off before returning to action Dec. 6-7 against UW-Superior and UW-Eau Claire.
