RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls men's basketball team won its third consecutive game on Tuesday evening with a 68-59 non-conference win over Concordia College at Page Arena.
UWRF improves to 3-2 overall and returns to action this Saturday, Nov. 30 at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.
The Falcons were paced by a season-high eight made three-pointers and 12 made free throws while Zac Johnson led all scorers with 23 points, shooting 8-of-17 from the field and 5-for-10 from long range. Jack Leifker followed with a double-double, totaling 12 points and and a career-high 12 rebounds.
In the first half, UWRF shot 41 percent from the field and made six of their eight three-pointers. With the scored knotted at 15-15 near the midway point of the period, the Falcons went on a 12-0 run during the next four minutes, capped up by a Jacob Butler steal and fastbreak layup to put the home team up 27-15. From then on, UWRF maintained a lead for the rest of regulation, including an 11-point lead at the intermission.
The Cobbers shot 56 percent from the field in the second half and narrowly outscored the Falcons 33-31, cutting their deficit to as little as six points late in regulation, but UWRF made free throws down the stretch to help seal the win.
Behind Johnson and Leifker's double-digit scoring efforts, Gavin Ralph had a season-high eight points.
