SAINT PETER, Minn. — The UW-River Falls Men's Basketball team lost its road matchup at Gustavus Adolphus, 73-53, in Saint Peter, Minn. on Saturday, December 14.
The Falcons led early into the second half, but a strong second-half performance by the Gusties tilted the game in favor of the home team. The loss dropped UWRF's record on the season to 4-4. Zac Johnson led the Falcons with 11 points.
A Zac Johnson three-pointer at the 16:13 mark of the first half put the Falcons up 10-7 early on. The Gusties bounced back with a 15-0 run that saw the Falcons fall behind 22-10 with just over 10 minutes remaining. The first half proved to be a game of runs, with UWRF cutting the deficit to 23-20 after a 10-1 run.
The final stages of the first half saw UWRF tie the game at 34-34 heading into halftime, as a three-pointer by Jeremy Wanguhu and a jumper by Jack Leifker tied the game in the last possessions of the half. Johnson led the Falcons with eight points in the first half, while Mason Anderson added six. UWRF shot 13-28 (46.4%) from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
The Falcons held a narrow lead in the early stages of the second half, leading 38-37 after Drew Adams hit a jump shot with 17:39 to go. After the game was tied 41-41, the Gusties embarked on a 15-0 run that saw the Falcons fall behind 56-41 with just over 10 minutes left in the game. The lead for Gustavus remained in double-figures for the closing stages of the game, as UWRF fell by a final score of 73-53.
UWRF finished the game 18-52 (34.6%) from the field, while going 8-26 (30.8%) from three-point range. Gustavus finished the game with a 37-28 advantage in team rebounding.
Johnson finished with 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Adams was UWRF's top rebounder with eight boards. Gavin Ralph totaled five rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block.
Up next, UWRF will return to Page Arena on Dec. 19 to host Hamline. The game is set to tip off at 7 p.m.
