RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's basketball team fell 72-71 against No. 9/12-ranked UW-Whitewater during the regular season finale and Senior Day at Page Arena.
The Falcons shot 24-of-57 from the field and 8-of-19 from three-point range and led for over 28 minutes against the Warhawks. However, the visitors rallied and a pair of late free throws sealed the win for UWW.
UWRF came out strong, shooting over 50 percent from the field and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc in the first quarter to claim a 25-19 lead, and led for the rest of the first half to take a 40-37 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, the Falcons led by as many as nine twice after back-to-back
Zoey Buchan three-pointers. In the final four minutes of the third quarter, the Warhawks went on a 15-7 run to trim the Falcon lead to 64-63 heading into the final period.
A tight defensive final 10 minutes limiting both teams to under double-digit scoring outputs, with UWW coming on top after drawing late fouls and sinking free throws.
Four Falcons scored in double figures, led by 21 points from
Macy Nilsen. Buchan made four three-pointers with 13 points,
Katelyn Karch tied a career-high 12 points, and Olvia Miron had 10. Nilsen also had a team-high six rebounds and three assists.
The Falcons (14-11, 5-9 WIAC) received the No. 6 seed for the WIAC Tournament and will travel to face No. 3 seed UW-Stout on Monday, Feb. 19.
