WHITEWATER, Wis. - The UW-River Falls men's and women's track & field teams opened competition at the 2024 WIAC Indoor Championships on Friday on the campus of UW-Whitewater.
Annika Gunderson headlined the Falcons' performance with a runner-up and All-WIAC in the women's pole vault. Her mark of 3.87 meters (12 feet, 8.25 inches) not only is a personal record, it improves upon her UWRF record set last season.
Also adding on to Gunderson's eight team points for the women was the distance medley relay squad of
Jaidyn McAlpine,
Sarah Hansen,
Megan Halbach, and
Peyton Opsahl, finishing seventh for a pair of team points, clocking a time of 13.15.34.
On the men's side,
Isaiah O'Connor finished eighth of 25 long jumpers with a 6.91-meter leap, earning one team point.
After day one of the men's heptathlon,
Jacob Balcome has compiled 2,658 points to sit in ninth place of 24 athletes. Balcome will resume competition tomorrow morning with the 60-meter hurdles, followed by the pole vault, and 1,000-meter run.
