PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's basketball team fell 72-70 Saturday afternoon at UW-Platteville.
After a tight first period, UWRF closed out the first half with an 11-4 run in the final three minutes to claim a 38-32 lead at halftime.
UWP outscored the Falcons 19-15 in the third quarter to trim the UWRF lead to 53-51 heading into the final 10 minutes. Minutes into the fourth quarter, a
Zoey Buchan triple extended the Falcons lead to five, and UWRF led until under two minutes left in regulation.
Platteville broke the Falcons' lead with 1:48 left in the game and held on down the stretch despite UWRF scratching at a comeback.Â
Macy Nilsen led the Falcons with 23 points off 8-of-18 shooting from the field with seven made free throws. Buchan followed with 18 points off the bench.
Kameri Meredith had a career-high 10 rebounds as UWRF had the edge on the glass, 42-30.
UWRF (13-8, 4-6 WIAC) returns to Page Arena next Wednesday to host UW-Eau Claire during National Girls and Women in Sports Day. All youth ages 18 & under will receive free admission, along with the Falcons being available postgame for team poster signings.
