DULUTH, Minn. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team earned a 1-0 road win at the College of St. Scholastica to open its 2024 season.
The win kept the two programs' traveling trophy in possession of the Falcons, the "Border Battle Chalice."
After a scoreless first half, UWRF fifth-year senior and co-captain
Aliviah McClinton scored the eventual game-winner at the 50th minute, with elp from
Emery Bigler.
In net, senior goalkeeper
Grace Zellmer made nine saves to earn the shutout, the ninth of her career.
The Falcons outshot the Saints 31-21, with 19 shots on target, also leading 6-3 in corner kicks. McClinton led UWRF with five shots on goal, along with three each from
Madyson Shew and
Lauren Best.
UWRF remains on the north shore to face UW-Superior on Sunday.
