MORRIS, Minn. — The UW-River Falls Women's Soccer team earned its third consecutive shutout victory, defeating Minnesota Morris 5-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
The Falcons dominated offensively, holding a 41-0 advantage in shots and a 27-0 advantage in shots on goal. For the second straight game, UWRF saw five or more players find the back of the net with goals. The win improved the Falcons' record to 4-1 on the season.
In the first half, UWRF controlled possession for a majority of the first 45 minutes, but the score remained scoreless for over 30 minutes despite the Falcons putting up 28 first-half shots. In the 34th minute, junior midfielder Elizabeth Felty broke the scoreless tie with an unassisted goal, her second goal of the 2024 season. The Falcons kept up the pressure with several shots on goal late in the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the break.
The Falcons ran off with the game in the second half, scoring four more goals to eventually win 5-0. In the 46th minute, Aliviah McClinton scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Lauren Best. Later in the 60th minute, Best scored by way of a penalty kick to put the Falcons up 3-0 with just over 30 minutes to go.
In the final 10 minutes, Madyson Shew and Lexi Atkinson both added insurance goals to give the Falcons a decisive five-goal victory.
Felty and Shew led the way with four shots each, while Shew led all players with four shots on goal. Overall, 19 Falcons recorded at least one shot in the victory.
Although she did not face any shots or shots on goal, the shutout victory by goalkeeper Grace Zellmer is her third straight. After two shutouts last week, she earned Kline Nissan Falcon of the Week honors.
Up next, the Falcons will remain on the road to face Bethany Lutheran on Sept. 14. Kickoff in Mankato, Minn. is scheduled for 2 p.m.
