MANKATO, Minn. — The UW-River Falls Women's Soccer team defeated Bethany Lutheran 4-2 on the road on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The win, which is the fourth straight for the Falcons, improved the team's record to 5-1 on the season. The win marked the third consecutive game in which at least four different Falcons have scored goals.
In the 15th minute of play, UWRF scored a goal off a shot by Emery Bigler assisted by Madyson Shew. The goal is Bigler's second of the year and Shew's first assist.
Bethany Lutheran answered back in the 36th minute, as Olaitz Muguruza scored off an assist from Elena Rubio Luján. The Falcons went into halftime tied 1-1 and holding a 10-2 advantage in shots and 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.
In the second half, the Vikings gained a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute off a goal from Ashley Casper assisted by Luján Rubio.
Shew and the Falcons equalized the game at 2-2 in the 69th minute, as the senior forward found the back of the net off an assist from Lexi Atkinson for her third goal of the season.
WIth under 15 minutes to go, the Falcons took control of the game and completed the comeback efforts. Aliviah McClinton scored in the 77th minute off an assist from Ellie Ketcher to put the Falcons ahead 3-2. Just over two minutes later, Ketcher scored a goal herself, off an assist from Lauren Gregory to give UWRF a commanding 4-2 lead that would stand through the final whistle.
As a team, UWRF held a 23-5 advantage in shots and a 14-3 advantage in shots on goal. Ketcher led all players with seven shots.
Up next, the Falcons are set to travel to Pella, Iowa on Sept. 21 to face off with Central. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
