PELLA, Iowa — The UW-River Falls women's soccer team dropped its road non-conference matchup against Central, 2-1, on Saturday, Sept. 21 in Pella, Iowa.
The Falcons held a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal and were out shot by a narrow margin of 14-12, but the Dutch capitalized off a 78th-minute goal to come away victorious.
In the 22nd minute, sophomore Emery Bigler scored her third goal of the year to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Central held an 8-4 advantage in shots in the first half, and capitalized off a 35th-minute goal by Grace Coates assisted by Alli Seegers.
In the second half, UWRF held an 8-6 advantage in shots. Despite the advantage, along with a 4-0 edge in corner kicks, the Falcons allowed a 78th-minute goal that sealed the win for Central. Abby Frey scored a goal assisted by Addison Brown, putting the Dutch up 2-1, a scoreline that would hold for the remainder of the match.
Bigler led the way for UWRF, totaling three shots and three shots on goal. Ellie Ketcher, Gabby Kempf, and Aliviah McClinton each added two shots. In goal, Kiera Nelson recorded three saves.
Up next, the Falcons return home after four straight road contests. UWRF will host St. Catherine on Sept. 25. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. at Smith Stadium at Ramer Field.
