RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls women's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw in its home match against St. Catherine on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
The tie moved UWRF's record on the season to 5-2-1.
The Falcons outshot the Wildcats 10-3 in the first half and built a 2-1 lead by the halftime intermission. Senior forward Madyson Shew broke the scoreless tie in the 27th minute, finding the back of the net for a goal assisted by Lilly Leitner — the goal is Shew's fourth of the season.
St. Catherine responded not long after, as Lydia Benson scored in the 30th minute. In the 34th minute, Ellie Ketcher stole the ball from the St. Catherine back line and capitalized from distance for her third goal of the year.
In the second half, both teams exchanged quality looks at the goal. The Wildcats managed a high volume of shots and scored an equalizer in the 84th minute to knot the game at 2-2. Ari Green scored a goal on the far left side of the goal, off a throw-in from Natalie Pfleger.
Shew led UWRF with four shots and two shots on goal. Ketcher added three shots and two shots on goal. In the net, Grace Zellmer recorded six saves.
Up next, UWRF will head to St. Peter, Minn. to face Gustavus Adolphus on Sept. 29. The match is set to kick off at 3 p.m.
