RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls volleyball team opened its 2024 conference slate with a 3-1 win over UW-La Crosse Wednesday night at Page Arena.
UWRF compiled a .178 attack percentage with 50 kills to defeat UWL in four sets (25-22, 25-17, 19-25, 25-13).
Both teams struggled to find a rhythm early on, with 15 errors from the Falcons and Eagles through the first two sets. However, UWRF tallied 13 kills in both sets to take a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, the visitors hit .367 and led by as many as 18-10 after four-straight points, winning 25-19 to trim the Falcon lead to 2-1.
After a third set loss, the Falcons regrouped and had their strongest set in the fourth, hitting 29 percent while limiting the Eagles to seven kills and seven errors. UWRF opened the set on a 5-0 run and followed with an 8-0 run later to claim a 24-11 lead. After the Eagles stopped the run, an
Ava Goldsberry kill ended the set and match.
Goldsberry led the Falcons with 13 kills, followed by 11 from
Lauren Noth who led the team with 16 digs.
Reese Bauman had eight kills and a career-high six blocks.
Olivia Gustafsson set up the attack with a team-high 25 assists.
The Falcons (5-7, 1-0 WIAC) travels to UW-Stevens Point this weekend to compete in three matches at the UWSP Invitational.
