EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-River Falls volleyball team fell 3-1 at UW-Eau Claire Wednesday evening during its first WIAC road test of the 2024 season.
Despite a hot start in which the Falcons opened the match taking the first set 25-15, the Blugolds responded by winning the next three sets in a row to earn the win.
In set one, UWRF was strong with a 0.324 hitting percentage, totaling 15 kills compared to UWEC's 0.129 hitting rate. The Falcons went on a 5-0 run to lead by 20-11 and won the set 25-15.
For the remainder of the match, the Blugolds held the Falcons to a negative hitting percentage, winning 25-11, 25-15, 25-15 in sets two through four.
Ava Goldsberry led the team with 13 kills while
Olivia Gustafsson had 13 assists and
Audrey Petersen had 16 digs.
The Falcons, now 7-9 overall and 1-1 in the WIAC, have the rest of the week off before returning to action at Hamline University next Wednesday.
