RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls women's soccer team was victorious, 2-0, against the Augsburg Auggies on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024 at Ramer Soccer Stadium in the team's home opener.
In the first half, the Falcons held a narrow advantage in shots and forced the Auggies to commit 10 fouls. A scoreless stalemate lasted until the 40th minute, when junior midfielder Elizabeth Felty scored a goal off assists from Lexi Atkinson and Brooke McDaniel.
Augsburg managed an 8-4 advantage in shots in the second half, but UW-River Falls held off any goals behind an eight-save shutout by senior goalkeeper Grace Zellmer.
In the 69th minute, sophomore forward Abby Drontle scored her second goal of the season off a set-piece assist from Madelyn Johnson that gave the Falcons a decisive 2-0 lead.
Ellie Ketcher led the Falcons with six shots on the night, two of which were shots on goal.
The victory over Augsburg improved UWRF's record on the season to 2-1. Up next, the Falcons are set to embark on a four-game span of consecutive road matchups. UWRF will head to St. Bonifacius, Minn. to face Crown College at 12 p.m. on Sept. 7.
