RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls volleyball team opened its 2024 home schedule and the first of three matches while hosting the Falcon Invite with a 3-1 victory over Bethel University Friday evening at Page Arena.
UWRF had a season-best .281 hitting percentage along with 64 kills and 55 assists, paced by
Emily Brenner's career-high 22 kills
Olivia Gustafsson's career-high 38 assists. In addition,
Lauren Noth and
Ava Goldsberry both had double-doubles, including Goldsberry's team-high 22 digs.
After a tight first set in which UWRF won by a slim margin of 25-23, the Falcons dominated set number two 25-9 while hitting 40 percent and forcing six Royal errors, taking a 2-0 advantage.
Bethel held on to force a fourth set, winning the third set 25-21 and forcing nine Falcon errors. Up 2-1, UWRF responded with its strongest set of the night, hitting 50 percent with 18 kills compared to Bethel's four.
The Falcons, now 2-3 overall, return to Page Arena to host Saint Benedict and St. Olaf tomorrow.
