OSHKOSH, Wis. — The UW-River Falls Men's Basketball team lost its Saturday evening matchup at UW-Oshkosh, falling 81-68.
Zac Johnson scored a season-high 26 points for the Falcons as UWRF shot 48% from the field, but the Titans made 23 free-throws and saw four players score in double-figures. The loss dropped UWRF's record on the season to 7-11 overall and 1-6 in WIAC play.
UW-Oshkosh opened the game with an emphatic 12-0 run, before back-to-back three pointers from Johnson and Drew Adams got the Falcons back into contention. UWRF shot 12-24 (50%) from the field and 4-7 (57.1%) from three-point range, but the Titans also saw an efficient shooting performance (53.9%) in the opening 20 minutes. With 11:33 to go in the first half, Mason Anderson converted a three-pointer that cut the deficit to 23-19. UW-Oshkosh responded with a 7-0 run, and led by roughly 10 points for the final eight minutes of action, as UWRF went into halftime trailing 42-31.
The Falcons once again shot well from the field in the second half, going 12-26 (46.2%) from the field and 6-10 (60%) from beyond the arc. UW-Oshkosh extended the led to 49-38 with 15:28 to go in regulation, before UW-River Falls eventually trimmed the lead to 57-53 after a Johnson-and-one with 9:32 remaining in the game.
The Titans extended their lead back to double-figures with 7:03 remaining, limiting the Falcons' chance for a late comeback. UW-Oshkosh held on to win 81-68 down the stretch.
Johnson's 26 points came along with three rebounds and two assists. Gavin Ralph totaled nine points, five rebounds, and two assists. UWRF capitalized off 22 points in the paint.
Next up, the Falcons will return to Page Arena to host the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 29. The game is slated to tip off at 7 p.m.
