RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW–River Falls women's soccer team fell 0-1 to UW–Platteville on Saturday afternoon at Ramer Soccer Stadium during the Falcons' Homecoming weekend.
The Falcons (9–4–1, 1–2–0 WIAC) outshot the Pioneers 20–13, including a 4–3 edge in shots on goal, but an early first-half strike proved to be the difference.
UW–Platteville's Sarah Liljestrand scored the lone goal of the match in the 17
th minute, finishing from long range to give the Pioneers a 1–0 advantage. Despite a strong response from River Falls, the Falcons were unable to find the equalizer across the remaining 73 minutes.
UWRF generated several scoring opportunities throughout the match, tallying six corner kicks to Platteville's one. Senior forward
Lauren Best led the Falcons with seven total shots, one shot-on-goal.
Lauren Gregory had three shots, one on target, while
Emery Bigler,
Macy Zins and
Lexi Atkinson each contributed two shots a piece.
Goalkeeper
Courtney Bain made two saves in net for the Falcons, while Platteville's Marguerite Mueller stopped four shots to earn the shutout.
The Falcons outshot their opponent in both halves and created second-half pressure, but the Pioneers' defense held to preserve the 1–0 result.
The Falcons will continue WIAC competition and travel to UW-Stevens Point next Saturday, Oct. 18
th to face off against the Pointers.
