RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team earned a 2-1 win over UW-Eau Claire on Saturday afternoon at Ramer Soccer Stadium.
The Falcons' win over Blugolds snaps a four-game losing skid against UW-Eau Claire dating back to 2021. With the win, UWRF improves its overall record to 11-4-2 moves into second place in the WIAC standings with 10 points and a 3-2-1 record. UWRF's 11 total wins is also the most since 2014.
In a tight contest, the Blugolds held a slim edge in shots on goal at 9-8 while UWRF had a 6-3 advantage in corner kick opportunities - capitalizing on a pair for both of its goals.
Just under nine minutes into the match, an
Elizabeth Felty service into the box was converted by
Brooke McDaniel for the game's opening goal - her third tally of the season, and UWRF led 1-0 after the first half.
Again the Falcons struck early in the next period, this time
Emery Bigler scoring her team-leading seventh of the season off a
Brooke McDaniel corner kick at the 52nd minute.
Eight minutes later, UWEC cut the Falcons lead in half with a goal from Emma Donovan. The visitors continued to push, outshooting the Falcons 8-4 in the final 45 minutes, but the Falcon backline and goalkeeper
Courtney Bain held strong for the win. Bain totaled eight saves for her second consecutive win, improving her record on the year to 7-4-1.
UWRF (11-4-2, 3-2-1 WIAC) closes out the regular season next week, including its final home game on Tuesday, Oct. 28 versus Bethany Lutheran College.
