RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls volleyball team closed out its three-match weekend homestand on Saturday by splitting matches against the College of Saint Benedict and Macalester College at Page Arena. After a 3-0 loss against Saint Benedict, the Falcons answered with a 3-0 win over Macalester.
The Falcons, now 10-11 overall, return to action next Saturday, Oct. 11 at Central College in Pella, Iowa.
Saint Benedict 3, UW-River Falls 0
During UWRF's first match of the day, they fell in straight sets to Saint Ben's, narrowly edged in the first two sets (26-24, 26-24) before the Bennies closed out the match with a 25-19 win in the third.
The Falcons and Bennies were competitive throughout, including 20 tie scores and 11 lead changes across the three sets. Despite the close margins, UWRF was unable to convert late-set opportunities.
Ava Goldsberry led the Falcons offensively with 10 kills, while Blessing Adebisi and Lauren Noth each added eight. Adebisi hit .294 and contributed three total blocks.
Audrey Petersen led the back row with 21 digs, and Ellie Mascotti added 13 digs and two service aces. Setter Ellie Mascotti also distributed 20 assists, while Olivia Noble contributed 10 assists and three digs.
UW-River Falls 0, Macalester 0
UWRF bounced back during its evening match, closing out the weekend by sweep the Scots by scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-20.
The Falcons posted their most efficient offensive performance of the weekend, hitting .236 as a team while holding Macalester to .173 attack percentage. Ava Goldsberry led the attack with 11 kills on a .241 hitting percentage. Emily Brenner added seven kills and five digs, hitting an impressive .667 for the match.
Blessing Adebisi was also a force at the net, tallying eight kills without an error on 15 attempts for a .533 hitting percentage.
Setter Ellie Mascotti distributed 25 assists and added two service aces and eight digs. Audrey Petersen led the defense with 12 digs.
