PELLA, Iowa — The UW-River Falls women's basketball team defeated Central College 61-40 Wednesday evening during its first road game of the season.
The Falcons, now 2-1 overall, came out firing and built a 23-6 lead through the first quarter, and didn't look back. UWRF shot 37.3 percent overall, knocking down five three-pointers and playing relentless defense, forcing 28 turnovers which led to 30 points.
UWRF held Central to just 26.7 percent shooting from the field and single-digit scoring totals in the first and second quaters.
Offensively, UWRF had balanced scoring with 11 different scorers. Olivia Hoerl and Mari Ryberg leading the way with 10 points apiece, while Zoey Buchan added eight. The bench contributed 21 points and helped secure 15 second-chance points off 15 offensive rebounds. UWRF controlled the tempo on the glass, finishing with 37 rebounds and limiting Central to just five second-chance points.
The Falcons remain on the road this Saturday, Nov. 15, traveling to Moorhead, Minn., to face Concordia College.
