Falcons Drop Road Matchup Against the Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. - The UW-River Falls women's basketball team built an early double-digit lead but couldn't overcome a slow second half Saturday afternoon, falling 64-57 to Concordia College. The Falcons led for over 32 minutes but were outscored 38-24 after halftime.

UWRF opened the afternoon from deep, hitting five first-quarter threes, shooting 40 percent from the field in the first half to take a 33-26 advantage into the break. Falcons were then limited to just 5 of 31 shooting in the final two quarters as the Cobbers rallied late.

The Falcons came out hot from the perimeter, hitting five triples in the opening quarter on their way to an 18-13 lead.
  • Taylor Clarey led the long-range charge early with eleven first-half points and three triples.
  • Zoey Buchan added three from deep, finishing the half with nine points.
Concordia flipped the momentum in the third quarter, hitting three triples while UWRF went 0-for-6 from deep and just 2-for-17 overall. Despite perfect free-throw shooting (8-for-8), the Falcons saw their lead narrow to one possession entering the fourth.

The final quarter swung fully toward the Cobbers as they shot 55 percent from the field and knocked down three more from beyond the perimeter. UWRF generated scoring late, but Concordia's inside presence and bench scoring sealed the deal.

FALCON LEADERS The Falcons will head to St. Peter, Minn., to take on the Gusties this Wednesday at 7 p.m.
