SAINT PETER, Minn. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team made a strong fourth-quarter push Wednesday night at Gus Young Court but came up just short in a 55-52 loss to Gustavus Adolphus.
The Falcons scored 22 in the final period while knocking down five threes in the quarter, but an early second-half scoring drought proved difficult to overcome. UWRF shot 12-of-32 from beyond the arc and had 24 points off bench while holding Gustavus to just five points in the third quarter.
The Falcons battled through a cold stretch in the third, scoring just six points, yet kept the game within reach thanks to their defense forcing 20 Gustie turnovers.
Zoey Buchan sparked the late rally with a pair of threes midway through the fourth.
Emily Anderson also delivered clutch shooting that fueled the Falcon run, helping the Falcons narrow the gap to a single possession. However, Gustavus responded each time, 6-of-10 from the line in the final quarter to maintain the edge.
Despite the result, UWRF's defensive pressure and three-point shooting kept the Falcons within distance throughout the night. The Falcons generated 11 steals, turned those into 17 points off turnovers, and limited the Gusties from deep, holding them to 5-of-14 from beyond the arc.
