RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls men's hockey team defeated Concordia College 2-1 Saturday night at Hunt Arena.
The Falcons battled back from an early deficit for the win to improve to 4-2 overall on the season.
Concordia struck first midway through the opening period, capitalizing on a Falcon turnover to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Despite the Falcons outshooting the Cobbers 17-9 in the first frame, Concordia goaltender Noel Olsonawski turned aside every UWRF chance in the opening 20 minutes.
UWRF responded early in the second period. Ben Portner went coast-to-coast and snapped a wrist shot past Olsonawski to tie the game at 1-1 with his fourth goal of the season. The Falcons continued to press and were rewarded late in the second when Keenan Ingram scored on the rush off an outlet pass from Zach Sondreal - his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
The third period saw Concordia push for the equalizer, including a late power play and an extra attacker in the final minutes, but Falcon goalie Brennan Boynton stood tall, stopping 29 shots on the night.
UWRF led 38-30 in the shot column, and won the faceoff battle 34-31. Special teams were quiet as both squads wet scoreless on the power play. Cole Teleki led the Falcons with seven shots on goal while Luke Margeneau had a pair of assists.
Next weekend, the Falcons open their 2025-26 WIAC schedule facing UW-Stevens Point and Beloit College.
