RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls women's basketball team earned a 47-40 victory over St. Catherine University on Tuesday night at Page Arena, improving to 4-3 on the season.
The Falcons leaned on their defense and timely shooting to secure the non-conference win. After a back-and-forth first quarter that ended tied at 11-11, UWRF used a 15-point second quarter to take a 26-23 lead into halftime. The Falcons never trailed in the second half, holding the Wildcats to just seven points in the final frame.
Zoey Buchan led all scorers with 20 points, knocking down four three-pointers and going 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. She also added four rebounds and two steals. Jocelyn Plonski added seven points and four boards, while Taylor Clarey chipped in five points and three steals.
Defensively, the Falcons forced 24 turnovers and converted them into 22 points. UWRF also held St. Kate's to 27.1% shooting from the field and just 15.4% in the fourth quarter.
The Falcons struggled from deep (5-of-28) but made up for it at the line, hitting 10-of-16 free throws and controlling the glass with 32 rebounds.
Up next, UWRF travels to Kenosha, Wis., this Saturday, Nov. 29 to face Carthage College.
