Falcons Open Season Hosting UWRF Invite Against Top-25 Opponents

The UW-River Falls women's basketball team is set to open its 2025-26 campaign on its home court this weekend, hosting the UWRF Invite at Page Arena. The two-day event features nationally ranked opponents Calvin University (No. 18, D3hoops.com) and Hope College (No. 23, D3hoops.com). The Invite marks an early test for a veteran UWRF squad coming off back-to-back WIAC Tournament appearances.

FALCON NOTES
  • The Falcons are coming off a 14-12 overall record and 6-8 WIAC finish in 2024-25, placing sixth in the league standings and earning a WIAC Tournament berth.
  • The team average 59.4 points per game while allowing 59.2 points, finishing with a narrow +0.2 scoring margin. UWRF shot 37.4 percent from the field, 32.3 percent from three-point range, and 68.6 percent from the free-throw line. The Falcons averaged 33.7 rebounds per game and just 13.8 turnovers per competition. The team averaged 8.7 assists, 7.3 steals, and 2.5 blocks per contest throughout the 2024-25 season. 
  • UWRF returns a veteran core led by All-WIAC First Team selections Olivia Hoerl and Zoey Buchan. Hoerl (Sr., G/F) averaged 14.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, shooting 39.4 percent from the field and 79.2 percent from the line. Buchan (Sr., G) added 13.6 points per game, connecting on 40.6 percent from three and 82.5 percent at the stripe.
  • River Falls ranked among WIAC leaders in three-pointers made per game (7.1) and team free-throw percentage (.686).
  • Head Coach Shelby Lyman enters her fourth season at the helm after guiding the Falcons to back-to-back WIAC Tournament appearances.
  • Last season, UWRF earned signature wins over No. 4 UW–Oshkosh and No. 17 UW–Stout, marking two top-25 victories in conference play.
