RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team is moving on in the WIAC Tournament after a 3-1 victory over UW-Oshkosh Wednesday evening at Ramer Soccer Stadium. The win marks the Falcons second straight trip to the conference semifinals and avenge recent loss on Nov. 1 against the Titans.
UWRF set the tone early with a pair of first-half goals. Gretchen Hanson opened the scoring in the 23rd minute off a cross from Lauren Best, who then assisted Brooke McDaniel ten minutes later, giving the Falcons a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
Ellie Ketcher added to the advantage in the 64th minute, finishing a long free kick from Madelyn Johnson for her seventh goal of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Bain record seven saves as the Falcons backline held strong, allowing just one late goal in the 84th minute.
The Falcons matched the Titans in total shots (13-13) but held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks and maintained control for much of the night.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 13-5-2 and advance to face UW-Platteville in the WIAC Semifinals on Friday at 7 p.m. in Platteville.
