SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team dropped a road matchup to Hamline on Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena.
UWRF shot 45.7 percent from the field and held Hamline to just four made three-pointers throughout the competition. However, the Pipers led the turnover battle with 18 forced and 26 points converted while leading points in the paint with 34 points.
Jeremy Wanguhu led the Falcons with 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting, adding four rebounds.
Micah Thompson followed with 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, recording his fourth double-double of the season.
Reid Tengblad provided a spark off the bench with eight points, six rebounds, and two blocks, while
Gavin Ralph chipped in six points and six rebounds.
Hamline opened the game with an early push and took a 35-26 lead into halftime. The Falcons battled back in the second half, trimming the deficit to five points through the period, but Hamline responded with a rally highlighted by trips to the free-throw line to slowly take control.
UW-River Falls won the rebounding battle, 33-27, and scored 26 points in the paint, but struggled at the line, converting only 9-of-21 free throws.
The Falcons will look to bounce back as they travel to Florida to compete in the Daytona Beach Shootout. UW-River Falls will face off against Maritime College and Grove City College.
