STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The UW-River Falls men's hockey team fell 6-2 Saturday evening at nationally ranked UW-Stevens Point, splitting the weekend series.
The Falcons, now 11-9-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the WIAC, finished their season series against the Pointers with a 2-1 record, winning 5-1 back in November along with last night's 3-2 win.
UWSP gained a 5-0 lead 12 minutes into the second period, which proved enough to down the Falcons to salvage a weekend split. UWRF answered late in the second period with goals by
Reid Lune and
Ethan Lindahl, but were shut out in the final 20 minutes while the Pointers added another for extra insurance.
The Pointers held a slim 28-24 edge in shots on goal while the Falcons turned away all three Pointer power play chances. UWRF scored on one of two power play chances with Lune scoring on the man advantage - his team leading third power play goal this season and his seventh overall.
Brennan Boynton made the start in net and was relieved by
Nolan LaCosse after UWSP's fourth goal. The duo combined for 22 saves, 11 each.
Cole Teleki assisted on both of UWRF's goals
UWRF returns to Hunt Arena next weekend to host UW-Eau Claire.
