SUPERIOR, Wis. — The No. 1-ranked UW-River Falls Women's Hockey team concluded its three-game season series against UW-Superior with a 7-2 victory.
UWRF improved its record on the season to 16-3-2 overall and 8-0-1 in WIAC play. The Falcons tallied a 54-19 advantage in shots on goal and scored on two power plays. Three goals in each of the first and second periods helped UW-River Falls build an early, insurmountable advantage that eventually held through the final whistle.
The Falcons wasted no time taking an early lead, as Megan Goodreau scored just 1:11 into the game. UWRF added another goal off the stick of Allisen Carothers at 4:19, doubling the Falcons' lead to 2-0. The Yellowjackets scored with under five minutes remaining, but a Goodreau power-play goal with under one minute to go gave UWRF a 3-1 lead at the first intermission.
The second period remained scoreless for the first 12 minutes, before Brooke Lemke found the back of the net for her third goal of the season, extending UWRF's lead to 4-1. With under four minutes remaining in the period Madison Kadrlik embarked on a scoring spree, finding the back of the net twice within a 25-second span. The goals helped UWRF build a 6-1 lead, an advantage that held through to the second intermission.
UWRF extended the lead in the third period to 7-1, as Kadlik notched a hat trick with her third goal. The Yellowjackets scored a goal midway through the third period, as UW-River Falls went on to win by a final score of 7-2.
Jordan O'Kane started in goal for UWRF and notched 17 saves, tallying her ninth win of the season. Kadrlik recorded her hat trick off five shot attempts, while Goodreau finished with two goals off 14 shots and 11 shots on goal. Madison Lavergne led the way with three assists on the day.
Next up, the Falcons will continue the second leg of a four-game road stretch, facing Saint Mary's in a non-conference matchup on Feb. 4. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
