EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The No. UW-River Falls women's hockey team defeated No. 12/14-ranked UW-Eau Claire 9-2 Saturday afternoon at Hobbs Ice Arena.
The Falcons, now 18-3-2 overall and 9-0-1 in the WIAC, led 2-1 after the first period before their offense broke open for seven goals in the final 40 minutes, including six unanswered.
Madison Kadrlik led the Falcons with her third hat-trick of the season and second in three games.
UWRF's nine goals against the Blugolds is the second most in the series history, and the most since 2001.
UW-Eau Claire opened the game's scoring before the Falcons closed out the period with goals from
Madison Lavergne and Kadrlik. After the intermission, Kadrlik scored another goal to increase UWRF's lead 2:50 into the second period. UWEC responded minutes later to trim the Falcon lead to 3-2, but UWRF didn't look back, scoring three more goals in the second and another trio of goals in the third while
Jordan O'Kane and the Falcon defense shut out the Blugolds for the rest of regulation.
Behind Kadrlik's hat-trick, Lavergne scored twice.
Bailey Olson scored on UWRF's sole power play of the day while
Kylie Jones,
Kenzie Dunn, and
Payton Hixson also found the back of the net.
O'Kane made 15 saves to collect her 11th win of the season.
UWRF travels to face UW-Stevens Point next Saturday, Feb. 15.
