RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team earned a decisive 3-0 shutout victory over Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday afternoon at Ramer Soccer Stadium. The Falcons controlled the match with 14 shots, including eight on goal, while limiting the Gusties to just nine shots.
The win improves UWRF to 3-1-0 on the season, marking their first victory over Gustavus since 2014 and snapping a long series drought against the Gusties, who now fall to 2-1-2.
The Falcons opened the scoring in the 23
rd minute when
Brooke McDaniel netted her first goal of the season, assisted by
Ellie Ketcher, to give UWRF a 1-0 lead. Late in the first half, in the 40
th minute,
Lauren Best added her first goal of the season as well, assisted by
Lexi Atkinson, extending the advantage to 2-0 at halftime. In the 64
th minute,
Leah Hultman sealed the shutout with her first goal of the season, assisted by
Lauren Best and
Ellie Ketcher.
UWRF's defense was stellar, holding Gustavus to three shots on goal while earning a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper
Kiera Nelson earned the clean sheet with three saves.
