RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team put together an impressive 4-2 rally to defeat UW-Superior today, Saturday, September 13, at Ramer Soccer Stadium. The Falcons overwhelmed the Yellowjackets with a 33-10 shot advantage, including 21 on goal.
The victory improves UWRF to 4-1-0 on the season, extending their perfect home record to 4-0-0, while UW-Superior falls to 0-4-1, still winless.
The Falcons struck quickly in the 2nd minute when
Ellie Ketcher scored her third goal of the season, assisted by
Lauren Best, to take a 1-0 lead. In the 12th minute,
Emery Bigler added her third goal, assisted by
Lilly Leitner, pushing the score to 2-0. UW-Superior started a comeback with goals from Niamh Larson in the 19th minute and Julia Taylor in the 35th minute, tying the game at 2-2. UWRF regained the lead just before halftime in the 44th minute when
Inga Julstrom netted her first goal of the season.
Macy Zins scored her first goal of the season in the 70
th minute, assisted by
Brooke McDaniel, sealing the 4-2 victory.
UWRF's defense stood tall, with goalkeepers
Kiera Nelson and
Courtney Bain splitting the 90 minutes evenly at 45 minutes each. Nelson made three saves in the first half, while Bain contributed two saves in the second half, combining for five saves to secure the victory against the Yellowjackets seven shots on goal.
- Emery Bigler led the offense, scoring her third goal of the season while adding six shots, five on goal, in 63 minutes.
- Ellie Ketcher continued her offensive run adding her third goal the season with four shots, two on goal.
- Macy Zins and Inga Julstrom both added their first goal of the season.
- Lauren Best added an assist, five shots with three on goal.
- Kiera Nelson and Courtney Bain anchored the defense with a combined five saves.
