RIVER FALLS, Wis. – In a thrilling chapter of the Border Battle Chalice, the UW-River Falls women's soccer team edged out St. Scholastica 2-1 on Sept. 21, 2025, at Ramer Soccer Stadium. The victory not only kept the coveted chalice in River Falls for the third consecutive year but also marked a historic milestone for head coach Sean McKuras, celebrating his 200th career win.
The match was a tale of two halves, with both teams locked in a scoreless stalemate through the first 45 minutes despite UWRF's lead in shots (14-6) and corner kicks (5-0). St. Scholastica's goalkeeper, Senich Rylee, stood tall, making six saves to keep the Falcons at bay.
The second half erupted with intensity. St. Scholastica struck first in the 74th minute when Anna Manion capitalized to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. In the 80th minute, Ellie Ketcher delivered a pinpoint assist to Lauren Best, who equalized with a clinical finish. Just over two minutes later, Emery Bigler sealed the comeback, firing home her fifth goal of the season to secure a 2-1 lead.
UWRF's offensive prowess was on full display, outshooting St. Scholastica 30-14 overall, with 11 shots on target. Ketcher led the Falcons with six shots, four on goal, while Bigler and Best each contributed significantly to the attack. Goalkeeper Courtney Bain anchored the defense with two crucial saves.
With the win, UW-River Falls improves to 7-1-0, while St. Scholastica falls to 2-4-2. UWRF will look to carry this momentum into its next match against Augsburg in Minneapolis this Wednesday.
