Falcons Grind Out Gritty 54-51 Conference Win

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team carried a composed finish down the stretch for a hard fought 54-51 conference win over UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday night in Don Page Arena.

The contest featured 40 minutes of intense defensive play, with neither team able to create separation until the final possessions. River Falls built a 20-16 lead heading into halftime and continued to match the Pointers point-for-point through the second frame to walk away with the home win.

Zoey Buchan led all scorers for the Falcons with 19 points, attacking the paint and converting key free throws late, going 6-for-6 from the line. Buchan also added five rebounds, six assists, and two steals on 32 minutes of play. Braelyn Beiler provided a spark off the bench, knocking down three triples on her way to nine points, including a pair of timely fourth-quarter baskets that helped River Falls regain momentum heading into the final minutes.

Emily Anderson added six points with two from behind the arc and three boards, while Jocelyn Plonski chipped in six points and five rebounds. Olivia Boily and Sidney Schmit each pulled down five boards as the Falcons battled on the glass against a physical Stevens Point frontcourt.

The Falcons finished the night with 10 assists and forced 20 Pointer turnovers, turning defense into timely scoring opportunities. The win moves River Falls to 3-3 in WIAC play and marks another important home conference victory.

UW-River Falls will look to carry tonight's performance into the weekend as they take on another nationally ranked WIAC program, the UW-Platteville Pioneers. Tip-off is slated for Saturday at 3 p.m.
