PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW‑River Falls men's basketball team struggled to find an offensive rhythm Saturday evening, falling 64-47 to UW‑Platteville in WIAC play at Bo Ryan Court.
UWRF was unable to overcome a slow start, shooting just 22 percent in the first half as UWP built a 37-16 halftime lead. Despite a more efficient second half in which the Falcons hit 36.7 percent from the field and went a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line, the early deficit proved too steep.
Gavin Ralph and Reggie Postel helped spark the Falcons offensively, finishing with nine and seven points, respectively. Jeremy Wanguhu added five points and a team‑high three steals, while Micah Thompson and Owen Havlik chipped in five points each. UWRF received 21 points from its bench and converted 12 points off Pioneer turnovers.
Platteville's Max Love led all scorers with 20 points, and Platteville held a 38-26 rebounding advantage and shot 44.7 percent overall.
The Falcons made a late push, cutting the margin to 12 on a Drew Tengblad three with 1:38 remaining, but Platteville responded to close out the game.
UWRF finished 15-for-48 (31.3%) from the floor and 6-for-20 from beyond the arc, while Platteville shot 6-for-19 from deep and 16-for-23 at the stripe.
The Falcons, now 8-15 overall and 3-9 in the WIAC, return to Page Arena next Wednesday, Feb. 18 to host UW-Stout on Senior Night.
