MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The UW-River Falls men's and women's track and field teams turned in a strong showing Friday afternoon at the Snowshoe Open inside the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse, using the final regular-season meet to sharpen up before championship competition next weekend.
MEN'S RESULTS
Senior
Yaih Marial captured the high jump title, clearing 2.00 meters to lead the competition. In the pole vault, sophomore
Bryant Molamphy continued his impressive indoor season with a winning clearance of 4.75 meters. The mark now ranks No. 2 all-time in program history.
Cole Darling followed Molamphy in the pole vault taking second with a vault of 4.45m.
Jacob Stella delivered a stellar performance in the long jump, leaping 6.74 meters, a mark that ranks No. 6 all-time in school history.
Jacob Balcome followed with a jump of 6.57 meters.
On the track,
Jack Richter continued to improve in program record book, posting an 8:42.08 in the 3000 meters to improve his No. 6 all-time mark. In the sprints, freshman
Isaiah Juneski clocked 23.08 in the 200 meters, moving into a tie for No. 10 all-time in program history. In the middle distances, senior
Logan Munson ran 1:55.76 in the 800 meters taking second.
The Falcons closed the meet with a season-best performance in the 4x400-meter relay, as the "A" team of
Jackson Boese,
Franklin Doncavage,
Ryan Pidgeon, and
TJ Hanson won the event in 3:30.39.
WOMEN'S RESULTS
Brianna Strehlau highlighted the sprint squad on the track, running 9.30 in the 60-meter hurdles final. The time ties for No. 9 all-time in program history. In the 800 meters,
Jalyssa Groskreutz ran 2:22.26, good for No. 9 all-time, while
Madison Whitman followed closely at 2:22.64, ranking No. 10 all-time in program history.
The 3000 meters saw a pair of great performances from the Falcons. Junior
Laina Viere ran 10:20.56, which ranks No. 6 all-time in program history. Junior
Emma Karnitz clocked 10:22.57, good for No. 7 all-time, securing her a spot in the conference field for the 3000 meters.
In the field events, senior
Annika Gunderson finished fourth in the pole vault (3.77m), while
Bene Smith cleared 3.47 meters to move into a tie for No. 10 all-time in program history.
Abigail Biggs also cleared 3.47 meters, adding depth in the event.
The Falcons capped the evening with a runner-up finish in the 4x400-meter relay, as
Taylor Matter,
Brianna Strehlau,
Sidney Gronski, and
Ava Bringgold combined for a season-best 4:12.30.
UW-River Falls now shifts its focus to the WIAC Indoor Championships next Friday and Saturday, hosted by UW-Platteville.
