PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Falcons kicked off competition at the WIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday in Platteville with multiple podium finishes and an All-WIAC performance to headline the opening day.
Leading the way was Ali Clifford, who delivered the highlight performance of the day in the women's shot put. Clifford earned All-WIAC honors with a third-place finish, recording a throw of 13.55 meters to score six team points.
On the women's side, Laina Viere added to the scoring effort in the 5,000-meter run. Viere crossed the line in 18:02.03 to place sixth overall, earning three team points and a podium finish in a competitive distance field.
In the field events, Annika Gunderson secured a fourth-place finish in the women's pole vault. Gunderson cleared 3.72 meters to earn 4.5 team points and a spot on the podium, continuing her strong indoor season in the event.
The men's Distance Medley Relay team of Myles Rasmussen, Tyler Parker, Logan Munson, and Wyatt Johnson delivered a fourth-place finish with a time of 10:19.39. The quartet earned five team points.
In the men's heptathlon, Jacob Balcome sits in second place after the first four events. Balcome recorded personal bests in both the 60-meter sprint and the shot put and is positioned well to compete for a top finish and All-WIAC honors on the final day.
With multiple podium finishes and key point contributions across events, the Falcons head into the second day of competition with momentum and opportunities to climb the team standings as the WIAC Indoor Championships continue Saturday in Platteville.
