Falcons Face No. 22 Stevens Point at Home, Visit Platteville Saturday

The UW-River Falls men's basketball team continues conference action this week, opening at home Wednesday night against the UW-Stevens Point Pointers, currently ranked No. 22. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Don Page Arena. The Falcons will then hit the road Saturday afternoon, traveling to face the UW-Platteville Pioneers with a 5 p.m. tip in Platteville.

THE SERIES

In the series between UW-Stevens Point and UW-River Falls, the Pointers hold a 21-13 edge since the 2009-10 season. Stevens Point has won the last three meetings, though the Falcons are 6-4 over the last 10 matchups overall. Earlier this season, the Falcons battled the Pointers to a tight first half before falling 86-64 in Stevens Point on Jan. 21. Reggie Postel paced the Falcons with career-high 21 points, shooting 8-of-12 from the field, while Gavin Ralph added 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers. 

River Falls and Platteville have met 34 times since 2010, with the Pioneers holding a 21-13 advantage in the series as well. The Falcons defeated Platteville 68-50 on Jan. 24 in River Falls, holding the Pioneers to just 38.5 percent shooting. Jack Leifker led all scorers with 21 points, while Micah Thompson posted 14 points and seven rebounds. Jeremy Wanguhu added 11 points and three assists, and the Falcons controlled the paint with 46 points to secure the win 

FALCON NOTES

The Falcons average 69.7 points per game this season while shooting 44.6 percent from the field and out rebounding opponents by a margin of +1.7 per contest. The Falcons rank among the WIAC leaders in blocks (3.6 per game) and average 12.3 assists per contest. 

Jack Leifker leads the Falcons at 14.2 points per game while adding 5.2 rebounds. Micah Thompson follows at 11.5 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 8.2 per contest, shooting better than 58 percent from the field. Jeremy Wanguhu is averaging 12.1 points per game and shoots 83.9 percent from the free-throw line, while Gavin Ralph contributes 9.1 points per game and leads the team in steals.
