Falcons Continue Conference Play with the Pointers & Pioneers

The UW-River Falls Falcons continue WIAC play this week with a pair of conference matchups, beginning on the road at UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday night, tip-off set for 7 p.m. The Falcons will then return home Saturday afternoon to host the UW-Platteville Pioneers at 3 p.m. inside Don Page Arena.

The Falcons enter the week at 12-9 overall and 5-5 in WIAC play, splitting last week with a win over the Blugolds and dropping a road matchup in Oshkosh.

THE SERIES

River Falls and Stevens Point have met 35 times since the 2009-10 season, with the Pointers holding a 21-14 advantage throughout this stretch of play. The Falcons, however, have won the last two meetings and seven of the last 10 overall. In the most recent matchup on Jan. 21 in River Falls, the Falcons clipped the Pointers, 54-51. Zoey Buchan led River Falls with 19 points, knocking down six field goals and going 6-for-6 at the free-throw line. Braelyn Beiler provided spark off the bench with nine points on three made three-pointers.

River Falls holds an 18-12 edge in the series against Platteville dating back to 2010, winning three straight meetings. The Falcons have been especially strong at home, posting a 10-4 record against the Pioneers in River Falls in the same timeframe. Earlier this season, the Falcons earned a 62-60 road victory at Platteville on Jan. 24. Emily Anderson paced River Falls with 17 points, including four three-pointers, while Zoey Buchan added 13 points and went 7-for-9 from the free-throw line. 

FALCON NOTES

The Falcons are averaging 58.6 points per game while allowing 56.8 per competition. River Falls is shooting 30.1 percent from three-point range and average 7.4 made threes per game, while holding opponents to just 28.6 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Defensively, River Falls forces 16.2 turnovers per contest while averaging eight steals per game. Sidney Schmit continues to lead the Falcons with 32 total steals this season. 

Zoey Buchan leads the team with 14.1 points per game, shooting 83.5 percent from the free-throw line and 41.2 percent from the field. Emily Anderson is second in scoring at 9.3 points per game, connecting on nearly 39 percent of her three-point attempts. Olivia Boily and Jocelyn Plonski anchor the interior, combining for over nine rebounds per game.
