STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-River Falls baseball team battled through a rollercoaster doubleheader on Friday, earning a dramatic extra-inning victory in game one before falling in a back-and-forth finale against the Pointers.
Game 1: UWRF 13, UWSP 11 (10 innings)
The Falcons delivered one of their most explosive innings of the season when it mattered most, plating eight runs to storm back and eventually secure a 13-11 win in extra innings.
Trailing 8-5 entering the ninth, UW-River Falls came up with clutch hitting up and down the lineup.
Tanner Hraby parked the rally with a two-run home run, while
Joe Riley added a key two-RBI triple to cap the inning. The Falcons totaled 13 runs on 13 hits in the victory.
Offensively, Hraby led the charge going 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBI, while
Max Krebs added three hits and two RBI.
Daniel Kibler delivered the biggest swing earlier in the game with a three-run home run as part of a four-RBI performance.
On the mound,
Brayden Ramus earned the win in relief, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings to stabilize things after Stevens Point's six-run fifth inning.
UW-Stevens Point threatened with a three-runs late, but the Falcons held on to secure the extra-inning victory.
Game 2: UWSP 10, UWRF 9
Game two proved just as charged, with the Falcons building momentum late before Stevens Point walked it off in the bottom of the ninth for a 10-9 win.
UW-River Falls trailed early but responded with a three-run sixth inning to tie the game and later took a 9-7 lead in the ninth behind timely situational hitting.
JV Castillo paced the offense with a strong showing, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, while
Ryan Eckerle added three runs scored and two hits.
Hudson Wagner and
Daniel Kibler also contributed multi-hit performances as the Falcons finished with 11 hits.
The Pointers answered in the bottom half, using a home run and a series of clutch hits to push across three runs and complete the comeback.
UW-River Falls (11-11) will remain in Stevens Point for another doubleheader tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.
