RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls baseball team swept a WIAC doubleheader at UW-Stout on Wednesday afternoon, by the scores of 10-5 and 7-4.
UWRF improves to 10-10 overall and 4-6 in WIAC play. The Falcons continue their conference schedule traveling to UW-Stevens Point for a four game series on Friday-Saturday.
UW-River Falls 10, UW-Stout 5
In game one, the Falcons were paced by the offense, scoring 10 runs on 11 hits for their second straight WIAC win.
In the bottom of the second,
Daniel Kibler and
Kaden Kokaisel hit solo home runs, giving the Falcons an early 2-0 advantage.
Stout scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third cutting into the Falcon lead, then UWRF responded with two more home runs in the top of the fourth.
Ryan Eckerle hit his first career home run, a three-run home run, before Krebs followed with the tenth home run of his career, increasing the Falcon lead to 7-1.
The Falcons scored three more runs in the top of the seventh, off a two RBI single from Kibler and an RBI single from Eckerle. The pair combined for seven of the ten UWRF RBIs.
Kibler was the offensive standout in game one. He went 4-5 with a double, home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. His home run was the first of his career.
Cole Scheel recorded his first career win for the Falcons, throwing 2.2 innings in relief allowing just one earned run.
Isaac Mens finished the final 3.2 innings of the game, earning his first career save.
UW-River Falls 7, UW-Platteville 4 (11 inn.)
The second game of the day was a back-and-forth battle, with the Falcons prevailing in 11 innings.
Stout took the first lead of the game on a run scoring single in the second.
Tanner Hraby scored
JV Castillo on a sacrifice fly in the third to respond.
The Blue Devils bounced back with a sac fly of their own in their half of the third inning putting them back in front 2-1.
This score held until the top of the sixth when
Hudson Wagner hit his first career home run to tie the game a 2 apiece.
The Falcons then took their first lead of the game on a steal of home by Castillo, followed up by an RBI single from Wagner, putting the score at 4-2.
Stout once again fought back scoring one in the eighth and the ninth to tie it, before
Shaun Gavin pitched his way out of a bases-loaded, nobody-out jam in the bottom of the ninth.
UWRF took advantage, scoring three runs in the top of the 11th that proved to be enough to end it.
Ethan Hibicke threw 3.2 scoreless innings during UWRF's mid game comeback, before
Parker Nedland came in to pitch two shutout innings for the 10th and the 11th to earn his first win of the season.
