Falcons Rally Past Gustavus Adolphus in Season Opener, 2-1

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team opened its 2026 season with a comeback victory Tuesday evening, scoring twice in the second half to defeat Gustavus Adolphus 2-1 at Gustie Soccer Field.

The Gusties struck right away, taking a 1-0 lead as Julia Davis found the back of the net at the 5:17 mark. With the lead, Gustavus controlled much of the opening half offensively, outshooting UWRF 9-0, but in goal, Courtney Bain kept the deficit at one with three first-half saves.

UWRF responded immediately heading into the second half of play. Just 45 seconds into the period, Ellie Ketcher found the back of the net for the Falcons' first goal of the season, equalizing the match at 1-1.

The Falcons continued to generate pressure throughout the second half, recording all seven of their shots and five of their six corner kicks after the break. Ketcher finished with a team-high three shots, while Emery Bigler added two.

With just over five minutes remaining, Brooke McDaniel delivered the game-winner. Lauren Gregory picked up the assist on McDaniel's goal at the 84:26 mark, pushing UWRF ahead 2-1.

The Falcon defense held over the final minutes to secure the season-opening win. Bain played all 90 minutes in net, finishing with five saves while allowing just the early Gustie goal.

UW-River Falls improves to 1-0 on the season and will return home to host the Bethel Royals on Monday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. at Ramer Soccer Stadium.
