RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team has extended their winning streak to three games Wednesday afternoon, defeating Hamline University 1-0 at Ramer Field.
The Falcons and Pipers played through a scoreless opening 45 minutes despite River Falls holding a 6-5 advantage in shots and 3-1 lead in corner kicks.
Courtney Bain kept Hamline off the board with four first-half saves, while
Nora Arneson put UWRF's lone shot on goal of the opening period.
Out of halftime, UWRF came out of with little change offensively, putting three shots on goal within the first 13 minutes of the second half. The Falcons finally broke through at the 58:34 mark, as
Maddie Finstad connected with
Emery Bigler for the game's lone goal and a 1-0 Falcon advantage.
The Falcon defense took care of the rest. Hamline was limited to just two shots during the second half, with Bain making her fifth and final save in the 53rd minute. She finished the afternoon with five saves across 90 minutes to secure the shutout.
The Falcons finished with a 12-7 advantage in shots, including a 6-2 margin during the second half. The Falcons also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks over the course of the match. Bigler led UWRF with three shots, while Arneson put both of her attempts on goal.
With the victory, the Falcons improve to 5-1-1 overall and have won three consecutive matches.
UWRF will return to Ramer Field on Saturday, hosting Crown College for Senior Day.
