Women's Basketball Team Tops Macalester, 72-53

Maranda Dohrn (Lake City, MN, Lake City), Lauren Pellowski (St. Paul, MN, Tartan)and Tess Lueders (Lakeland, MN, Stillwater) all scored in double figures to help lead the Falcon women's basketball team to a 72-53 win over Macalester College on Tuesday night at the Karges Center.

The Falcons scored the first two points of the game and Macalester came back to tie the game 2-2. But that was the last time the Falcons were not ahead. The Falcons scored the next eight points to take a 10-2 lead with 16:38 left to play and never looked back.

UWRF led by 18, 35-17, with 3:04 to play in the first half. They went on an 8-0 run the rest of the half to take a 43-17 lead into the locker room. Dohrn scored six of the eight points in the run while Pellowski netted the other two.

The closest the Scots got in the second half was 19 points three times. With 17:16 to play the Falcons led, 47-28 and with 16:30 to play the Falcons led 49-30. The Falcons then went on a 13-2 run to take a 30 points, 62-32 lead, with 12:45 left. Brittany Gregorich (Altoona, Altoona) scored on a past break layup to put the Falcons ahead by the 62-32 margin. With 10:27 left UWRF had another 30 points lead, 64-34, when Tess Lardie (Eagan, MN, Eagan)e hit two free throws. The last 30 point advantage came with 9:10 to play when Lardie scored on a layin to put UWRF ahead, 66-36.

Dohrn led all scorers with 14 points and she had six rebounds. She finished 7-11 from the field. Pellowski finished with 12 points and led the Falcons with nine rebounds. Lueders came off the bench to scored 11 points and she had six rebounds. Lardie led the Falcons with five assists and she scored six points. Tiffany Gregorich (Altoona, Altoona), who scored seven points, led the Falcons wtih three steals.

UWRF shot a season high .542 from the field hitting 32-59 shots. They finished 5-8 (.625) from behind the arc. UWRF had a commanding 39-26 advantage in rebounds.

The Falcons, now 3-1 overall, will host Martin Luther College on Monday at the Karges Center with action starting at 7 p.m.
