The Falcon women's basketball team dominated the Hamline Pipers 67-52. The Falcons had three players scoring in double figures.
Alise Holst (Plainview, MN, Plainview-Elgin-Millville) led the Falcon effort with 15 points, six rebounds, and four steals to lead the Falcons in each respective category. She was followed by Taylor House (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) who had 12 points, and Brittany Gregorich (Altoona, Altoona) who had 10.
The Falcons opened the game on a 12-0 run, which was highlighted by back-to-back layups by House.
The Pipers would cut the lead to three with 8:51 to go in the first half, but the Falcons responded to take a 35-23 lead with 1:14 to go in the first half. The Falcons would close out the half leading 39-25.
But, the Pipers opened the second half with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to four. But the Falcons again responded, going on a 15-0 run to put the game away, leading by as many as 21 with 4:26 to go in the game.
UWRF dominated the paint. The Falcons scored 34 of their 67 points in the paint, while holding the Pipers to 20.
The Falcons out-rebounded Hamline 40-26. House and Holst lead the rebounding effort, grabbing six a piece. Nikki Guhr (Muskego, Muskego) added five boards of her own.
The Falcons were stellar on defense, snatching 15 steals.
The Falcons also shot an impressive 46.4% from the field goal range, connecting on 26 of 56.
UWRF provided a deeper bench than the Pipers. The Falcons bench contributed 15 points compared to the Hamline bench who had a mere two.
The Pipers were led by Mary Wilkowski who had 24 points to lead all players. Wilkowski also grabbed a game-high seven boards.
With the victory, the Falcons improved to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in WIAC play. The loss drops Hamline to 1-7.
Up next for UWRF is a home match featuring the battle of the Falcons, as they face the Falcons of Concordia University of Wisconsin. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Karges Center.
This will be the first matchup between UWRF and Concordia in the program's history.
