Women's Basketball Falls to No. 8 Stevens Point

The women's basketball team fell to eighth-ranked UW-Stevens Point, 75-67.  The Falcons could not find an answer for All-American Britta Peterson who had 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The Pointers had four players in double figures.

The Falcons never had much going on offense and were a dismal 2-14 from behind the three-point arc.  The Falcons did not make a three-pointer in the first half.

The Falcons did however, shoot much better from the free-throw line, connecting on 17 of 21 from behind the line.

The Falcons trailed 37-32 at the half.  The closest the Falcons came was after Alise Holst (Plainview, MN, Plainview-Elgin-Millville) connected on a jumper to put the Falcons within three with 17:10 to go.

Brittany Gregorich (Altoona, Altoona) was 8-10 on free-throws.  She led the Falcons with 18 points, her season's best.  Her six rebounds were second, only to Maranda Dohrn (Lake City, MN, Lake City) who finished with seven.    Dohrn also added nine points for the evening.

Tiffany Gregorich (Altoona, Altoona) had nine points as well as four assists.

The largest lead for the Pointers was 13 with 2:14 to go in the game. After that, the closest the Falcons came was within eight.

The Falcons finished 24-64 or 37.51% from the field.  Meanwhile the Pointers were 28-54 for 51.9%.

Each team committed 12 turnovers but the Pointers capitalized best, scoring 13 points off Falcon turnovers compared to the Falcons who only scored four.

Up next for the Falcons are the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds.  The Falcons travel to Eau Claire on Wednesday.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Falcons end their five game winning streak and fall to 5-2 on the year and 1-1 in the WIAC.  Stevens Point meanwhile improves to 6-1 on the year and 2-0 in the WIAC.

The loss was the first for the Falcons at the Karges Center this season.
