The Falcon women's basketball team stunned UW-Eau Claire in a nail-biting 65-64 victory at the Zorn Arena in Eau Claire.
UWRF used a balance attack to down the Blugolds, with four Falcons scoring in double figures.
Alise Holst (Plainview, MN, Plainview-Elgin-Millville) turned in her best night of the season, scoring 18 points led all scorers. She also grabbed five rebounds. Her five steals also lead all players.
Nikki Guhr (Muskego, Muskego) also had a stellar night, knocking down 7 out of 8 field goals for a total of 15 points. She also had three steals.
Taylor House (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) and Brittany Gregorich (Altoona, Altoona) were the other Falcons in double-digit scoring. House scored 13 to go along with five rebounds and Gregorich added 11 points and six rebounds. Her six rebounds led the way for the Falcons who completely outdueled the Blugolds on the boards.
The Falcons had 44 boards compared with the Blugolds 27.
Maranda Dohrn's (Lake City, MN, Lake City) three-pointer with less than a miunte to go sealed the game for Falcons and gave them the 65-64 lead.
The Falcons utilized the presence of their strong inside game to outmaneuver Eau Claire. The Falcons score 40 points in the paint and limited the Blugolds to a mere 18.
UWRF proved the depth of their team, as 28 of the Falcons points were scored by the bench. Eau Claire's bench scored a more modest 18.
The only area where the Falcons did not come out ahead was in the turnover ratio. The Falcons committed 26 turnovers while forcing Eau Claire to commit 18.
The Falcons improve to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the WIAC. The Blugolds meanwhile fall to 4-4 and 1-2 in the WIAC.
