Women's Basketball Loses at UWSP, 71-58

House Leads Falcons With 13 Points

The Falcon women's basketball team fell short at Stevens Point on Saturday, losing 71-58.  Alise Holst (Plainview, MN, Plainview-Elgin-Millville) had a game-high 17 points in the losing effort, including scoring the first seven points for the Falcons.

The Pointers jumped to a 7-0 lead and the Falcons never recovered. Following five quick points by Holst, the Falcons trailed 10-5 but that was narrowest margin of the night.  

Berg Gymnasium had another full house as they watched their Pointers claim their second WIAC regular season title in the last three years. Stevens Point has now won 14 consecutive games as they used a mix of swarming defense, swift ball movement, and excellent outside shooting to clinch the conference title. The first half was topped off with a three-pointer as time expired to put the Pointers up 38-27.

The Falcons remain the best rebounding team in the WIAC, both offensively and defensively, and held a 31-30 edge over the Pointers on the boards on Saturday. Taylor House (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) had a game-high nine rebounds to go with her 13 points. She was followed up by Maranda Dohrn (Lake City, MN, Lake City) who grabbed eight rebounds, including four offensive boards.Tiffany Gregorich (Altoona, Altoona) had another solid all-around performance scoring seven points, six assists and three steals.

The loss drops the Falcons to 15-7 overall and 7-7 in the WIAC, but received some help from Whitewater as the Warhawks defeated Eau Claire 85-72 on Saturday. This keeps the Falcons even with the Blugolds in a tie for fourth place with two games remaining. 

Up next, the Falcons host UW-La Crosse on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Wednesday's game is the team's WBCA Pink Zone game and all fans are encouraged to wear pink.
